2009-2010 Drug Strategy Community Initiatives Fund (DSCIF) Call for Proposals - British Columbia

Within the context of the DSCIF funding streams and priorities, the BC Regional Office will place priority on projects:
Targeting Youth (Aged 10-24) and Families Most At-Risk / Most In Need
Priority will be placed on strengths-based projects that target:
- Youth and their families;
- Marginalized youth or youth disconnected from culture, peers, community or mainstream services; and/or,
- Aboriginal (off-reserve) youth.
Targeting Community Engagement / Community
Priority will be placed on projects that:
- Improve connectedness between youth, peers and their community; and,
- Address underlying cultural and social determinants.
When assessing proposal submissions, priority will be placed on proposals that address regional priorities and:
- Address geographic gaps or target innovative settings;
- Focus on knowledge exchange across communities;
- Have clearly defined and relevant partnerships;
- Focus on emerging issues substantiated by quantitative research;
- Are evidence-informed and able to contribute to promising practices and/or innovative models; and,
- Use a community development approach to ensure direct youth participation and engagement in the development and implementation of the project.
Low priority will be given to proposals in British Columbia that:
- Focus on one-time presentations / events / conferences / workshops;
- Focus solely on the production of media, social marketing and/or websites that are not integrated into a larger project proposal; and,
- Focus on specific illicit drugs without relevant statistical evidence of prevalence or need.
All proposals must be submitted and received no later than 4:00 p.m., (Pacific) on July 31, 2009, for projects with a planned start date of April 2010.
