Tracking and Prevention

Health Canada's tracking and prevention initiatives involve a great deal of collaboration, coordination and training with provincial and territorial counterparts.

Health Canada's Role

Health Canada works with provincial and territorial partners to provide a comprehensive monitoring system to track any accidental exposure to radiation in workers, the environment or the public in Canada by:

• Providing national dosimetry services for monitoring radiation exposure in the workplace,
• Working with the Canadian Radiological Monitoring Network (CRMN) to provide Canadians with accurate health assessments regarding existing levels of radioactivity and nuclear/radiological accidents from a national perspective,
• Developing techniques and laboratory capacity to monitor human exposure to radiation during an emergency through the Human Monitoring Laboratory , and
• Coordinating preparedness planning and testing of the Federal Nuclear Emergency Plan to ensure that all responsible parties are ready and able to act in the event of a nuclear emergency.
