Workshop Summary Report - Best Practices - Treatment and Rehabilitation for Seniors with Substance Use Problems, March 6 and 7, 2003
Conclusion
Ms. Outhwaite highlighted again that Health Canada offered the workshop as a way to prepare communities to serve the aging population and understand their needs. The workshop is part of overall efforts to encourage and support a Canada-wide focus on seniors' issues.
Workshop participants offered the following suggestions as a means of working with seniors in the future:
- Agencies and organizations need to look at the changing population and reflect on the implications for their programming.
- Work needs to be done to build the foundation for senior-specific programming. This will require adapting existing programs and will require new resources.
- Agencies and organizations should continue to identify and implement best practice research that is available from the literature.
