It is with great sadness that Health Canada announces the death on May 22, 2006 of Heather Crowe, known and admired by many Canadians.
Health Canada received several messages from Canadians thanking Heather Crowe for dedicating the last years of her life to the protection of workers from second-hand smoke. Read some of the messages received and learn more about Heather Crowe's contribution.
Meeting Heather inspired me to quit smoking.
Meeting Heather inspired me to want to help others.
Meeting Heather gave me the drive to do something about smoking and it effects.
Meeting Heather and hearing her tell her story the way it captivated everyone within ear shot showed me that anyone can have a voice.
Heather once said that she wants us to carry on her torch to light the way for others to stand up against tobacco and second hand smoke.
Heather has inspired, gave me something to fight for, and shown that anyone can have the voice of a hero. Meeting Heather and seeing her smile no matter were she was or what she was doing will be a memory that I or anyone who experienced the same thing will never forget.
Heather you were our light and we will carry that torch in memory of you.
Thank you Heather. (Brian, Ottawa)
My deepest sympathies go out to Heather Crowe's family. What an incredible legacy she leaves. As an asthmatic who is in the hospitality business, words can't express how thankful I am for Heathers brave actions. Thanks to her tireless efforts, she has made a significant & healthy difference in my life! My thoughts are with you (Cindy, Toronto).

Hi. You don't know me but I am a TV watcher who was touched profoundly by Heather's first "commercial". Just recently, I started seeing her second "commercial" and I was surprised to see how good she looked. It was a shock to find out that she has passed.
I admired her courage to share her personal story with the country -- twice -- and my thoughts and prayers go out to you in this time of grief. I know she was a remarkable woman, even though I only saw her for about 30 seconds once in a while. May God wrap his loving arms around you and surround you with his comfort. And may God bless you all (Beth)
Ms. Crowe made a presentation at my school once and I think she was one of the greatest guest speakers our school has ever had. At one point, I thought it was cool to smoke, but after hearing Heather's courageous story, she made me realize that the cool thing to do is to quit smoking. Thanks to Heather, I'm going to live a long and healthy life. Thank you Heather for saving me. (Jacquie, Ottawa)
Heather Crowe IS the true meaning of a Canadian Hero and the fact that she continued to fight her battle till her last breath proves that. She may not have been able to see every province become smoke free, but because of her, they all eventually will be. Thank you Heather for your amazing courage and spirit. You will never be forgotten. (Kevin, AB)
There should be more people like Heather. Thank you to Health Canada for allowing such an amazing woman be a spokesperson for your campaigns. She touched so many lives and will live on in our hearts forever. (Donna, NFLD)
