This sample action plan is illustrated with the example of Ontario; however, each applicant should create an individual action plan that is informed by the policies of the medical regulatory authority of the province or territory which they intend to return.
The Canadian Standard for independent registration in Family Medicine requires completion of Canadian licensing and specialty certification examinations. Accordingly, I plan to complete these examinations during the course of my training in the United States, and apply for an Independent Practice license from the CPSO.
My plan is to:
Once I have completed all of the aforementioned requirements, I will apply to the CPSO for an Independent Practice license. I am aware that I will have to request that the Registration Committee waive the, "Completion in Canada of one year of postgraduate training or active medical practice" requirement, as per the CPSO requirements for an Independent Practice license.
If I do not successfully complete the CFPC or MCC exams before the completion of my training, I recognize that I will be eligible to apply to the CPSO for a restricted license under their Restricted Certificate of Registration for Exam Eligible Candidates policy.
This policy will allow me to practice under supervision until I have completed all the required exams or my eligibility to complete these exams expires.
Once I have completed all of the steps, I anticipate that a likely timeline for me to return to Ontario and start practicing is [month/year].
