Health Infostructure Support Program
When several researchers access identical data independently, different approaches may be applied to the same issues, yielding possible inconsistencies in both data sets and conclusions. The proposed Concept Dictionary will make the Manitoba Centre's intellectual assets more widely available to scholars, students and other health care researchers.
The project will develop a Concept Dictionary, a web-based tool to help health care analysts and researchers use information resources more efficiently, by devising terminology that will make database access easier. The Concept Dictionary extends the standard data dictionary approach and permits the use of a search engine to find concepts not yet indexed. The technology will establish standardization among Canadian researchers and minimize confusion in population data arising from different approaches and definitions.
