Health Infostructure Support Program
There is a considerable amount of consumer health information available in Newfoundland and Labrador. Resources range from basic data to in-depth, research-oriented information. Data are available in various formats including print, electronic, AV and multi-media. The resources are targeted towards client groups determined by the setting in which they are found. These settings include hospitals, libraries and health and community centres. There is not, however, a central access point to facilitate consumer health information exchange.
The 12-month pilot project will establish a consumer health information web site of selected resources for Newfoundland. The project will also develop an electronic database and a print directory of consumer health associations and other sources of health information in the province. The project will serve to test the feasibility of a provincial health library and information service, with linkages to national agencies and initiatives.
Project Funding under HISP: $40,250.00
