Health Infostructure Support Program
Primary Care is the hub of the fully integrated health system. Primary health teams, generally led by family physicians, are the coordinators of primary care. One of the barriers to coordinated, continuous primary care is poorly organized and delayed information. Physicians generally, while acknowledging this shortcoming, have not embraced the technology that can address the problem.
The project focuses on demonstrating the benefits of primary care information systems and to encourage physician acceptance and use of information technology. The project involves the development of pilot sites, providing education and computer training to selected volunteer physicians and the development of network based applications (such as patient profiles) for use at the pilot sites. The project is expected to result in increased understanding and use of information technology by physicians.
