Project: Web Nosh Kun Project

Health Infostructure Support Program

Background

Traditionally, First Nations and Inuit people have taken a holistic view of health. Instead of absence of disease, health is seen to involve physical, social, emotional and spiritual well being, with the focus on not only the individual, but on the family and community. The word "Web Nosh Kun" in Ojibwa means "to help it move faster". Movement towards a technologically advanced information system has been the vision of the North Shore Tribal Council Health program for some time and is an important element of the Aboriginal Healing and Wellness strategy.

Project Description

The project will lead to the development of a regional health infrastructure that will collect information on services being provided through the First Nations community and regional programs within North Western Ontario. It will also support the development of policy and provide training for health care workers, and introduce the use of the Internet as a resource.

Project Funding under HISP: $112,319.00

Project Management: The North Shore Tribal Council
