Health Infostructure Support
The use of tele-technology and tele-medicine is increasing in many areas. Palliative care is one area which would benefit from an increase in the use of tele-medicine. For example, it would give the terminally ill patient, who has chosen to die at home, access to palliative care services generally found in institutions. The use of tele-medicine would also help to strengthen the bonds between the patient, the family and the team members providing the support.
The project focuses on home care and the use of innovative telehealth technologies. The Telehospice pilot program will evaluate the effectiveness of "home based" technology, such as video phones, in the provision of palliative care to patients in rural and isolated communities.
