Turnaround Time

Turnaround times may vary if Health Canada's Research Ethics Board (REB) Chairperson or staff members are unable to attend REB meetings, if a quorum cannot be obtained, or if additional information is required to be provided by the Principal Researcher to the Board. Estimated turnaround time for correspondence and forms from receipt date of documentation are as follows:

  • Application for Board review
    Letters of concerns or approval letters from the REB sent within two weeks following the REB meeting.
  • Consent form amendments
    One to two weeks
  • Protocol amendments
    One to four weeks. This may be longer if the amendment has to be submitted to the full Board for review.
  • Annual progress reports
    One to four weeks. Up to four weeks if full Board review is required
  • Adverse event reports
    Two weeks
  • Termination/Completion reports
    One week
